Today was all about Mount Kong Tong, one of the holiest mountains in Chinese Taoism. We left the hotel early taking the truck to the visitors center some 15 minutes drive out of town. From there it was like all other major Chinese attractions. Buying tickets, check tickets, board minibus, drive to the entrance of Mount Kong Tong and then going uphill through a number of switchbacks before arrived at the visitors centre at the top of the mountain. Maybe 15 minutes on the road or so.
At the top it was the usual circus with souvenir-street, entertainment with dancers and musicians and signs pointing in all directions. Our first goal was to walk the Stairway to heaven - a steep set of stairs going up the mountain. We got a nice map - with Chinese text - but apart from not knowing the name of the different temples it was clear to see the there was a lot of temples scattered all over the area.
We spent most of the day hiking the mountain enjoying all the different temples and the stunning views. After crossing the Heavenly Bridge we were at a small temple on a mountain top with some scary drop-offs. Image 50-60 meters straight down and no fence. Impressive place for a rest and some lunch.
Both of us walked home to the hotel in the afternoon - about 13 km, Mikkel a bit more because he walked from the top to the parking lot as well.
We met for pool at beer-square, where it was possible to rent a pool table for 10 Yuan for an hour. Combined with sunshine and cool beers it was the thing to do after a long and physically hard day.
We had asked Ann to help us find a dinner place where we could have "Whole Chicken" so we ended up with another group dinner right next to the hotel having not one but two whole chickens with stir fried veggies. 12 people splitting a bill of some 550 Yuan including some well deserved beers.
When we left the restaurant we decided to walk with Ann, Patrick, Nico and Laura to find a place for foot massage. Rather spontaneous but our feet felt like they could use some tender, love and care. We ended at a place that offered massage and karaoke. At the same time. For 39 Yuan. Not the best massage and one of those situations where the Asian mentality was present. We ended up being 5 people in the room asking for massage - no problem, but only two women to do the actual massage and even though Ann did her best to ask for "the other women" they never showed up. So we ended up spending two hours waiting for each other to have feet and body massaged. But it was good to have the sore body rubbed a bit.
