Staying in a cave

Early start this morning in Yan'an. Long day drive to the caves where we're going to stay tonight. Breakfast this morning was a 2 Yuan bun with vegetable fill. Not super exciting but better than the dumplings.

The drive was really interesting with rocky hills, green hills, canyons and lots of caves on the sides of the rocks. Just the right setting to get in the mood for staying in a cave.

Had a lunch stop in a town (probably 1 million inhabitants) and traffic came to a stand still when we parked the truck. Cars and mopeds literally just stopped in the road and we could see all the smartphones taking pictures of us. Walking through town to find some lunch included a similar bombardement of stares and pictures being taken of us.

We arrived to the caves in Lijiashan in the afternoon. Well it was more a guest house on the side of a hill than caves but it was a bit different than regular guest houses. They also had the traditional beds where you can lit a fire underneath it in the wintertime to keep warm. That wasn't necessary at this of the year.

We had the cave place to ourselves and they had a nice courtyard where we sat outside and enjoyed the afternoon. Some people, including Malene, played a bit of badminton.

It was a really nice evening, we had a good dinner, and since it was nice and warm everybody stayed up for a bit longer. We also got a chance to see scorpions. The guy at the cave place had gathered a handful of small once and showed them to us. He put them on the ground and with his ultra violet light they lit up in a florescent yellow colour. If they tried to run a way he simply blew on them and they stopped.
