Dunhuang is one of the historically most important trading and oasis towns. Today most people go to see the Mogao Caves with Buddha stautes. And so did we.
Parked the truck and then we went to see a film about the silk road in a huge theatre with lots of Chines tourists. We did hear the film in English and it was quite interesting. Then it was time to move to another room to see a 360 film about the caves. Also interesting but we were more eager to go and see them on our own.
There are several hundred caves but only a few are open at once. They're are restoring the other ones. We were shown 8 caves. There were a lot of tourists so we had to wait every time we had to go into a cave and sometimes it was a bit difficult to get the feeling of the cave and see everything properly but it was still interesting and we had a good English speaking guide. In one of the caves we saw a 34 meter high Buddha.
After a relaxing afternoon and some food at the night market 12 of us went to a KTV bar again. More karaoke. Why don't we sing karaoke more often at home?! We had our private room again and had lots of fun and sang for 3-4 hours and suddenly it was 1.30 in the morning. How often do you sing karaoke on a Monday night until 1.30? Not often but sometimes everything is possible. Going home the night market was just closing. Maybe not a city which never sleeps but they don't go to bed early. Some of the others wanted to go to a club but we decided to head home to get some sleep.
