We left the hostel at 8:15 AM to go to Managua. Mikkel and Frederik feeling a little hung over from last nights rum and cigar party. The one hour drive to the airport wasn't going to be a problem since we had plenty of time before our plane would depart around noon. And flying domestic meant that we just had to be there a short time before departure.
The only logistical challenge was to go to a hostel somewhere in Managua since there was a limit to how much luggage we could take on the La Costena flight. Some of us who we going to continue our holiday had left luggage at the Oasis hostel in Granada knowing that we were coming back there after our visit to Little Corn Island, Frederik and Berit knew they were going to return to Managua before flying home so for them it was easy to leave it in Managua.
Eventually we found the hostel, they had a few spare lockers where we could leave the extra stuff including some items from our backpacks that we are not planning to use for the rest of our trip and which Frederik could bring home. Back to the airport for some late breakfast and some other practical stuff. Among the many coffee places and small restaurants serving local Nicaraguan food there was a Subway. Nothing like good hangover food.
We headed to the "domestic terminal" which is one of the smallest we've been to in the world, checked our luggage in and realised that our flight wasn't until 2:30 PM - instead of 12.30!! 6 bright young persons but neither of them checked time of departure we had seen the ckeck-in time! So we had plenty of time to wait and be hung over. Once we saw the aircraft there was a bit of delight since it was not one of the tiny small ones, but a decent size ATR-42 plane.
The woman announcing the departure also announced our names, which meant we got to board the plane first, grab some good seats and then wait for the take off. We had a beautiful flight of around 50 minutes before we touched down at Big Corn Island airport which felt a bit like landing in the middle of a small town. Since the airport only has one trolley for taking luggage to and from the aircraft there was a bit of waiting for our bags to arrive, but once we had them, we headed for a taxi, spent 5 minutes to get to the port and boarded one of the small boats that sail to Little Corn Island. The crossing took around 40 minutes and we were picked up at the pier by a guy from our hostel.
There are no cars on Little Corn Island so our luggage was trolley'd in wheelbarrow to the other side of the island, we had our rooms and the whole place just felt like being there and relaxing. A few cold beers before dinner, nice dinner at a place down the beach before heading early to be. What a good day.
