This morning we got up really early. Well, some of us did. It was too tempting to leave the bed at 5:50 and head 20 meters down to the beach and watch the sun rise over the Caribbean sea. Add to that a much more reasonable temperature outside our small rooms and the option to go for an early morning swim in the ocean. What a nice start to the day.
At 9 am we all headed to Aqua Boy, got our snorkelling gear and headed out to the reef for 1½ hours of wonderful underwater experiences. It was a rather big group and the sea was a bit rough but we managed to stay together and do three different snorkelling trips to different parts of the reef.
The reef was damaged, no doubt about that since they do snorkelling trips to this place many times a week, but we managed to find a nice big octopus that was hiding in its cave. Eventually it got a bit curious as to who we were and it came out and walked across the sea bed giving us some great entertainment.
The second part of our trip we spotted lots of nurse sharks on the bottom and some big stingrays hiding on the sea bed. The best part was swimming with big eagle rays. They look so amazing when they glide through the water.
The third part of the trip included a swim through a really impressive shallow coral garden and some deeper sections where we - surprise - spotted more hiding rays and nurse sharks. There weren't that many fish on the reef, but they tend to stay in certain spots and maybe we just didn't come across one of those. Great snorkeling trip and we headed back to the shore and had lunch.
Malene and Frederik signed up for a PADI course to get their certificate while on Little Corn Island, while Matilde, Berit and Michael signed up for individual dives including a night dive later in the week.
Later in the afternoon we headed back to the western side of the island for a few sunset drinks before dinner. We had the local dish - "Rondon" or "Rundown" for dinner tonight. It is basically a coconut soup with vegetables and fish and lobster tail. A huge bowl for each of us for less than USD 10. It was delicious. You just have to remember to order it 2 hours or more in advance since it is cooked to order.
