Malene and Matilde had agreed with the hostel owner to go diving this morning, trying to dive in a freshwater in a volcanic crater. He was on "Nica-time" so it took a while to get everything ready at the lake shore but eventually they all plunged into the water and disappeared below the surface.
After around 45 minuted they resurfaced and told about their freshwater dive in a crater. It wasn't the biggest experience but still interesting and not that different from diving in saltwater when it came to buoyancy. There were a few fish and an old sunken boat/kayak. They went down a couple of meters more than Malene had tried during her Open Water Course but the lake was calm and they were close to the crater side all the time so it was quite okay.
We decided to try our luck heading out for lunch at another hotel and walked around 45 minutes down the road only to find the place we wanted to eat at closed. Or the owner politely told us "not today". We tried our luck following a few other signs to more closed places and headed back home just trying our luck one more time down a gravel road.
When we got to the lake shore it was clear that this was where the locals went for their Sunday trips to Apoyo. Loud music, many people swimming in the water, even more people hanging out in the small bars on shore and many of them drunk. Just the place for us to hang out and have some local food. So we stayed there for about an hour feeling like we just managed to find Apoyo's best kept secret.
Then we hurried back to our place for the last swim in the lake this time just making it out to the floating platform before the sun disappeared. We had decided to have dinner at our place tonight, no need to try our luck outside the place. Everything seems to be closed or close early around here. Not a problem though since they do wonderful pizzas here.
