The breakfast wasn't great. The highlight was a fried egg this morning. We discussed the plans for today and agreed to stay "in town" and walk around the lake. Hpa-an is know for the temples and Buddha caves around the city but we have seen enough caves, Buddhas and temples for now, so we just decided to have a lazy morning.
When we finally made it out of the hotel around noon it was a blistering 41 degrees outside. We walked down to the river to a cafe we found yesterday and had lunch in the shade outside. Then we sat there trying to be as inactive as possible, reading our books and looking at everyday life in Hpa-an.
Once the sun started to eat away the shade we had to go back to our room at the hotel. It was simply too hot to stay outside. Later in the afternoon we ventured out again, walked past the lake and rented one of the small pedalboats and did a couple of round on the lake in an ugly red glass fibre swan boat which was designed for people that were no taller than 1,5 metres. We didn't sink but it was close.
Safely back on shore we spent the next hour walked around the residential neighbourhood, meeting a lot of nice local people, and by coincidence we came across a nice Korean restaurant and had wonderful dinner. Then we walked back to the hotel. Our long bus journey starts tomorrow at 5:45 AM when we have to be at the corner of the road for the bus to pick us up.
