We left for Gaston after breakfast and stopped a couple of times on the way to the High School. Well there was very short between the stops. Gaston is a very small town. We stopped at the baseball field, and the main street - and uuuuuh, they got a coffee shop - before heading for Gaston High School. We checked in as official guests, met with the principal and a few of the teachers before walking around. Definitely a difference between Gaston and Westview High school - here they very all curious and wanted to talk with us. At Westview we just walked around on our own. It's a small high school but it was super busy with lots of kids everywhere. Things are going well in Gaston apparently.
Then we headed for McMinnville and the air museum which turned out to house an amazing collection of planes, rockets and - well everything that can fly or has flown. Who would have thought that this tiny town in Oregen could house such a collection. The centre piece - The Spruce Goose. The worlds biggest plane sat there in the main hangar and where we had expected a shady hangar we had the complete opposite. Impressive display of aircraft, interesting and detailed stories about most of them, a free guided tour and off course the option to walk inside the Spruce Goose - and Mikkel even fell for the option to buy access to the cockpit complete with tourist photo and Malene wearing Howards Hughes hat.
There was too much to look at so after having spent 3 hours there we left having seen some of the most iconic vessels to have flown or travelled in space. On the way back to Gaston we stopped in the surprisingly pleasant town of Carlton. Strolled around for a while and visited a few shops including a winery to hear a bit about the story of the wine making industry. We didn't try the wine though and we were a week too early for the Carlton Crush.
We barely made it back to Gaston for a quick dinner and then we headed to Crissy to join her and her boyfriend Dave. They took us drinking beer at the ABV Brew pub. A wonderful place with at least 30 different beer on tap. We got to try a few - not all of them before heading back to Gaston.
