Today it was time to say goodbye to Georgia and hello to Azerbaijan.
We had a fantastic time in Georgia and we can only highly recommend going here (Maybe just a little later so everything is a bit more green and the weather a bit warmer) It's the country of food -great food - great hospitality, cave towns, sea side towns, Ladas (except from Batumi which is Mercedes town), crazy driving, crazy new modern buildings next to Soviet union ugly buildings, skiing, mountains, wine and cha cha - stay away from it, it's dangerous ;-)
The boarder crossing did go quite smoothly and the very serious guards soon turned into very curios people who wanted to know where we were from, see the stamps in our passports and talk about our travel.
In Sheki we went to the Palace of the Sheki Khans and what a huge experience. The interior was incredible with paintings and colored glass in the windows. And the stories about the paintings were great. There used to be carpets everywhere in the palace and they used to match the ceilings but none is left they were all stolen during the Soviet Union time. Unfortunately as well it's only one out of many palaces in the town left after wars.
The night is spend in a hotel built inside an old caravanserai - a medival inn for trades men. And our first taste of the Azerbaijanian kitchens seems promising.
