With the Inca Trail departure day getting closer today's most important task was to get to the office of our tour operator and pay for the trip and get all the paperwork done. Having signed up for this half a year in advance (yes, it is crazy in all ways), and having the anxiety about loosing our original passports and thus not being able to do the trip - or having the weather, strikes or other unplanned events cancelling our trip we didn't want to be late with payment or anything else.
This was our first task on today's list - get to the office, pay, paperwork. And then we realised that the office was closed. It was Sunday. The first time we've tried this - in maybe three months. It turned out that most of the town was closed on Sundays. It was all very quiet when we got outside the hostel. No traffic, no people, only a few shops open. We had it all to ourselves. On the other hand this meant less people to bother us with "tourist offers". At least for five minutes. Then somebody overheard us talking about bus tickets and immediately offered us to help. And got told off by Mikkel. To the extent that he immediately ran to the other side of the street.
Having walked around for a while we needed some food, Malene being the prepared tourist knew a place around the corner that served good Peruvian food, so we went there for lunch and had a wonderful meal. Ready to head back into the street this time going to the bus station to find tickets for next week when we're heading to the coast. A really nice taxi driver picked us up and took us to the right bus station, waited for us and chatted all the way about Cusco. We needed that. For some reason we were totally unprepared for being in tourist-trap-land.
The taxi dropped us off at the other side of town and we walked around in a really nice part of the city, ending up having a good afternoon walk, a bit of siesta and then heading out for kick-ass-good vegetarian food (yes) at one of the best places we've eaten for a long time. Totally stuffed we headed back to the hostel. Take two on the Inca Trail payment tomorrow.
