All day bus trip to Cusco

We left the hostel in Arequipa as planned 6:30 AM and were at the Flores bus terminal in time. The bus was only 5 minutes delayed before we headed back the same way we came a couple of days ago. Almost 5 hours of driving back towards the sleepy and dusty town of Juliaca before heading towards Cusco.
Nice scenery all the way, as usual the only tourists on the bus was us and as usual a lot of entertainment from various women getting on and off the bus along the way selling food. And that's about it for 11 hours not counting in the different action movies we managed to watch.

We arrived in Cusco just after sunset, found a nice cab driver at the bus terminal and he took us to the hostel in 10 minutes. Got our room and a shower - and then we headed out in Cusco to find some food only to realise that we just got to a place even more touristed than Puno and Arequipa. In fact this was probably the most touristed place we've been for months.

Going to Plaza de Armas - the epicentre of tourist traps just meant being hassled by more people wanting to sell us paintings, souvenirs, dinners, guided tours and a lot of other useless stuff. We ended up having a good menu del dia at a small cafe before heading out for some more evening city sightseeing only to be asked 10 times about "dinner, dinner, dinner" at every restaurant we passed by. We hope it's going to be a bit more laid back the next couple of days.

And - oh - central Cusco with Plaza de Armas is really impressive at night with buildings and cathedrals lit up. No doubt about that.
