Imperial Summer Resort and pedal boat

We're tempted to say yet another temple on the itiniary today. The day started with a visit to the Puning temple. A nice temple again but we have seen so many now that it's difficult to be really impressed and really wanting to discover all the small rooms with Buddha statues. Instead we mainly walked around and soaked up the atmosphere. Lots of Chines people were there to pray so there was a lot of things going on.

New to us today was the 18th century Imperial Summer Resort where the imperial family used to go in the hot summer months. Today it's a museum and a large park with lakes and pagodas. Local people use the area to go and play majong and music, to dance and to enjoy the green area. People from Beijing use the city of Chengde to go a weekend-retreat - away from the more polluted Beijing. We headed out for a boat trip on the lake in a do-it-yourself-paddle-boat. A nice way to spend the time.

Before dinner we went out to find a good cup of coffee. They had nice western food as well so we ordered a tuna salad as as a starter before going out for Chinese food.

Mikkel also got a hair cut before dinner.
