Driving to Xian

Back on the truck this morning. At bit sore legs but happy after the nice temple- and hiking day yesterday. Did visit our breakfast shops to stock up on food for the drive to Xian. We've now gotten used to adding a couple of hours to the estimated drive time. It always takes a bit longer for whatever the reason.

As we approached Xian it was our first meeting with a Chinese multi million city. Officially there should live some 6-7 million people, but that was two years ago and the number is probably closer to 9 million now.

From the time we hit the "New city airport" at the outskirts of Xian to we arrived at our hotel at the centre of the city we did a full hour of highway driving passing multi-level fly-overs and intersections. Finally we made it to our very nice hotel. A garden hotel. Big room on the fourth floor with lots of space and a balcony.

Mikkel went with a group of guys to find Burger King (success) and Malene went out for some local food for lunch. In the evening it was time to do the farewell dinner since a number of the participants ended their trip here. David, Wayne and Janice whom we expect to see again in Canada later this summer. Joyce and Donald and then also our guide Eoin who's going home to Ireland.

Nice restaurant with various tanks and cages at the entrance - tanks for fish and cages for frogs and turtles. You do want to pick your own turtle before it's cooked - don't you???
Drinks at a bar next to the hotel where they had a wide selection of very expensive European beers. How nice to have a Franziskaner or a Leffe when it's Friday evening.
