Pingyao city walk

This morning we had a chance to say hello to our new guide – Anja. Yes, she is from Denmark, Næstved – and she's spent the past couple of weeks trying to get a truck across India and Pakistan and into China. It obviously didn't go according to plan since she just joined us about 4 days later than supposed but she is here now and ready to guide us through to Beijing and Mongolia. She's been a guide in China before so it is a welcome change to the previous guides who could mostly rely on trip notes and assistance from our fabulous Chinese guide... ehhh, translator.

Not the best morning for Mikkel though. Bad stomach most of the night so he stayed in most of the day, but Malene went on the guided tour to some of the Pingyao landmarks including the prison, the bank, temple and a couple of other buildings.

Good guided tour with some interesting insight into banking in the old days when banks were about money and there was proper private banking and guest rooms in the bank, ancient Chinese torture equipment in the prison as well as a lot of statues in a temple showing how the afterlife would deal with you if you didn't behave when you where living the human life. Interesting and very explicit. Who wouldn't attend the temple a couple of extra times during the week if there was a display showing how you would be split down the middle if you didn't behave.
