Last yurt stay in Kyrgyzstan, Tash Rabat Caravanserai visit and BBQ in the rain

Packed and ready to go at 8 am. Beautiful morning. Kyrgyzstan really has been good to us also with the weather. We enjoyed the drive down the valley to our first stop – Naryn. Big provincial town compared to the villages we drive through. Have now seen so many markets that we have stopped being surprised when you see people unloading raw meat from the trunk of a taxi or somebody carting an ox head to the butcher – or anything in between.

Roads were very mixed – bad at the beginning, then getting better and better before we turned on to the dirt road that would take us to our yurt stay. The last scheduled stay in Kyrgyzstan. 2600 meters. Right next to the Tash Rabat Caravanserai. Cold when we got there but we went for a walk after lunch. Mikkel was on cook team so he headed back a bit earlier to take care of the food preparations - BBQ tonight.

When all the Shasliqs were ready for the barbecue the weather suddenly changed from cloudy to snow. First barbecue in snow. But we managed to get the food done for everybody. Nice lady at the yurt place turned on the electricity when we were more or less done eating.

The nice lady also lit the fireplaces in the yurts. It was really nice coming back to a warm yurt to sleep. Early morning tomorrow – heading for Chinese border and hopefully no problems crossing into China.

Eagle and yurts in Issyk Kul

Left homestay, shopped for camp food and headed towards tonight's camp site. A yurt camp close to the Issyk Kul lake.

The stop of the day included a falconer showing his bird. We stopped in the middle of nowhere and there he was. Dressed in traditional costume. From the back of his car he took an eagle that was fairly big. Everyone got a chance to hold the eagle. Then the man took out a rabbit – also from his car. Let the rabbit loose and walked up the hill towards the top. Then he let the eagle loose and it dived straight for the rabbit. The rabbit managed to escape the eagles first attempt but soon ended as the lunch for the eagle.

The weather forecast didn't look the best for the next two days so our guides changed the wild camp to a yurt stay. A The new people hadn't tried to stay in a yurt yet so it was a good opportunity for them to try it. It's early in the season so instead of the yurt people cooking us dinner we prepared our own dinner.

Instead of being bad the weather decided on sunshine and blue sky for the afternoon and since we stayed right on the edge of the lake a few people went swimming. Good dinner at the camp fire and then some drinks. Getting ready for our swim in the morning.
