Hoi An ancient town

The bus arrived in Hoi An just after dawn and daybreak. The sun was still below the horizon but there was day light which means the world when you arrive in a new place. Daylight makes everything about 10 times easier including fighting annoying taxi drivers off at 5:30 AM. A "No" is never really a "no" unless you give them the look where they know the next thing is going to be a broken bone. Easier in daylight.

Our hotel was just a short walk away so we took our bags and walked for 15 minutes, found the hotel - or homestay - in the first attempt and realised that it was not open yet - as in locked front door and nobody to answer when we knocked on it.

The bus ride wasn't too bad, kind of quiet in the bus, not too many stops or breaks and we both managed to get some sleep. But still - it was a night bus, and moving beds are not that great. So we were delighted when the hotel open at 6:30 and we were let in and had our room. And then we slept. It was until later in the morning that we made it out of our room and around the corner to "The best Hoi An coffee shop" and had brunch there.

Having made it out of the room we headed to the city centre and the ancient town after our brunch and spent the rest of the day walking around down there, having a few breaks for coffee and later cold beer and basically just enjoying the nice and relatively quiet town. Being very popular with tourists it also takes a bit of energy to avoid all the different street sellers and other people trying to offer you services or products or a combination.

Hoi An Ancient town is really nice, and it was nice once again taking things in a slight slower pace. Malene had a dinner appointment with a couple of girls from the hostel in Da Lat, so in the evening we met for nice food at one of the places in town that also do community work - this place employing and training local kids to cook and serve food.
