Laughing at the signs in Kashgar

The day was free for us to do whatever we wanted in Kashgar. We went on a city walk with a handful of the others from the group.

First of all we had to learn to survive in traffic because the city is full of noiseless electrical scooters and they come from all directions all the time.

Besides the scooters we had lots of fun looking at the signs with dubious or funny English translations.

We went to see a Mao statue and then we chilled in Peoples' park. The tour also took us around old town where there are lots of small shops - craft shops, barber shops, butchers, bakeries and lots of mini markets and food places. Not really going anywhere specific but more soaking up the atmosphere. Kashgar is a fantastic city. Big and busy but still small and quiet. We love it.

We went for lunch in small place and went for the safe choice which was a noodle dish in one of the pictures on the wall. Yes yes, we have laughed of all the food pictures in Southern Europe many times, who needs them? Well, we need the pictures now, when we have no clue which dishes they have, how they're pronounced, we can't read Chinese and it doesn't really work to show them a Chinese word for the dish.

Ordering food for dinner was once again fun. This time we also had pictures but we were placed around a round table wit a lazy Susan and didn't really know that the custom here is to share the food So the fun came very randomly and the portions were enormous Let's just say we didn't go to bed hungry, We're doing the best we can with hand signals and showing Chinese signs when ordering food, it's still a bit challenging but great fun.
