Goodbye beautiful Kyrgyzstan - Hello China

Last morning in Kyrgyzstan. What can we say - we've really really enjoyed Kyrgyzstan. What at fantastic beautiful country with a great variety in the scenery. Nice and laidback people and good food. We can only recommend everyone to come here if you like being out in the nature. The weather has been quite good here in May but june-August is the best time to go because you can also go to the areas in the altitude without it being freezing cold and you can go to Song Kul lake which we had to skip because of new fallen snow.

We needed to leave Tash Rabat early, there's a bit of driving to the boarder and as we've seen before it normally takes several hours to cross the boarders plus we loose two hours going into China. Malene's cook team made packed lunches for everyone. We also gave the nice lady at the yurt place all over left over vegetables and fresh milk products because they normally don't allow you to bring fresh vegetables, meat etc. to China.

First stop before the boarder was a check point, then another check point and then the Kyrgyz boarder at the Torugart Pass. Ice cold outside and inside but it didn't take all that long. The men at the boarder did get a whole package of cigarettes - inside a newspaper. Then some driving to the Chinese boarder where we had to stop at a gate where we had to wait for the Chinese people and our Chinese guide to show up. They have cameras so when they see you they send the guide who's waiting at a prior check point. Our Chinese guide Yan had to send a substitute to get us through the boarder though, Because she's from Beijing they wouldn't let her into the boarder area.

We sad goodbye to Begaime. Hugs, smiles and many "you've been fantastic. Thanks so much. you were great". If anyone of you are ever going to Kyrgyzstan we can highly recommend Begaime as a guide.

After the gate between Kyrgyzstan and China we drove on a horrible gravel road for an hour before reaching our first check point where we had to get out of the truck, get all our luggage out and have it scanned. The truck was also inspected. Then we drove for an hour before reaching the next passport check point. Still no stamps and not really in China yet. Then we drove for another hour or two before reaching immigration. First the truck was disinfected, then some waiting and then all bags out again. And now our guide was allowed to meet us. Once again we were almost the only ones at the boarder. Stamps in passports didn't take long an.

Back in the truck and not far to go before reaching Kashgar. A big city and at first sight it doesn't seem all that fantastic. But let's see we have 2 days here. Our hotel is taggy with colored decorations on the walls and in the ceiling. We all had dinner at John's cafe. A restaurant and travel agency. Easy for tonight. It was late when we got to the hotel.

We're excited to see more of the city tomorrow.

Beautiful morning
