See you later Matilde - heading for Esteli (Bus from Leon to Esteli)

We had good breakfast today, a fairly big one with waffles and fresh fruits. Then we headed back to the hostel, Matilde got all her stuff and some of ours ready and were picked up by the airport shuttle at 9 AM, we waved goodbye and decided to hang out a bit not feeling the need to hurry to Esteli. There are buses departing on a regular basis and a few "express buses" during the day so around noon we left the hostel and had a bicycle taxi taking us to the bus terminal. He parked the bike in front of the express bus to Esteli and we got tickets for seat 75 and 76 - on a 80 seat bus.

It turns out the bus sell out pretty fast. Suddenly the bus started 30 minutes ahead of schedule only to do a single round around the block and then park at one of the designated bus stops at the terminal. We waited there for more passengers and left Esteli with 80 persons sitting and +20 persons standing in an old US school bus. Carrying +100 persons meant that the express was a bit slow so it took us more than 3 hours to get to Esteli.

We had the key to our room at the hostel and decided to head out for early dinner. There was a local place just one block away and we had more rice, beans and meat. After the meal we walked a bit around town trying to get some idea of the place. Clearly not anything close to Leon it is still a big provincial town with a few busy streets and a bit cathedral. We sat down for coffee and enjoyed the busy street. Then back to the hostel where we booked a trip to Somoto Canyon tomorrow.

Our trip in Central America is also coming to an end next week so we are trying to figure out what to do for the last days and Somoto is on the list. Since it was a 6 AM departure we decided to do it now, and then have time to relax Sunday. Being Nicaragua we are certain that Esteli is going to be dead quiet on Sunday and then we can relax. Early to bed today and ready to catch the two hour chicken bus to Somoto where "Henry" will be waiting for us. Then it is a 5-6 hour walk and swim in the canyon river.
