Local bus to Arequipa

Early check out and head for the bus station. We had booked the "bus economico" to Arequipa at 8:20 AM so we had to be there just before 8. Quiet morning at the bus terminal since most buses seem to depart late in the evening for Cusco or Arequipa. The bus left the terminal on time - us being the only tourists on board. In about six hours we made it to Arequipa going through some impressive landscapes and over a couple of mountain passes. Flores bus have their own bus terminal in Arequipa, we were dropped of there and then got the smallest possible taxi to our hostel.

In the afternoon and evening we walked around town, considered going to the convent, but decided not to. Instead we went to one of the central plazas and found a roof top terrace where we could enjoy the sunset and get a better view of the city. Close to one million people it is one of the biggest in Peru. We even realised that there was a pedestrian street with shops so we walked up and down there looking at shops and people.

We had a restaurant recommended for dinner - Zig Zag - and since it was number one on Tripadvisor we could only get a table for 9 PM, but no problem. Late dinner with three courses of delicious veggies and many kinds of meat served on a hot stone. A bit on the expensive side but so nice. Must go for local and cheap food tomorrow.
