Chilling in La Paz

Topoco had recommended the hotel - including the breakfast buffet. It was true. Good breakfast this morning. Outside the hotel the street was quiet but there was a lot of leftovers like beer bottles, confetti and the drinks stalls. All empty.

We had breakfast and then Topoco showed up so we spent around an hour with him going through the next couple of days when we were heading to his place. What to bring, what to expect, where to go and so on. And of course - when. 7 AM tomorrow morning pick up. We start early. All things being agreed he left, Mikkel decided to do some Skyping home to his dad - and then the band started just outside the hotel. The party was not over - it just took a break between 6 AM and 10 AM.

More Skyping and practical stuff and then we decided to head out for the market - Mercado Rodriguez. The nice lady at the reception told us the it would probably be a bit slow today - the combination of Sunday and party keeping the level of activity down. We didn't mind that and it turned out to be quite busy anyway with lots of stalls offering veggies, fruits, meat and everything else. And not too many other tourists.

We had lunch at a local restaurant - chicken, meat, rice - and then decided to find the Teleferico. La Paz' proud piece of infrastructure for public transportation. We had the directions - head for Plaza Espana - so we walked, and walked and walked. The streets being quiet this afternoon there weren't too many people to ask but those we found all pointed in the same direction. Eventually we found the Mi Teleferico station, paid the tickets and boarded the gondola. And had the best view possible of La Paz. Quietly floating about the houses, roads and buildings.

We took the yellow line all the way to the top - getting off at El Alto - and then we admired the view of the city in the afternoon sunshine. A street vendor offered freshly squeezed orange juice so we also had a big glass of that sitting down in front of the cable car station watching the minibus chaos going on.

Then we took the cable car down again - 17 minutes to the end of the yellow line. Having done enough Telepherique-ing this afternoon we took a taxi back to the hotel. We got our stuff packed for tomorrow mornings trip to Topoco including a lot of clean laundry.

For dinner we went to the Steakhouse La Paz. Malene and Jes had big steaks, Mikkel had a super burger. Topped up with a bottle of nice Chilean red wine. Tomorrow is going back to basics at Topoco's place. Must buy whisky and toilet paper before we leave town.
