Birthday in Bolivia

Mikkel turned 40 today so the breakfast included a few gifts and gift cards from home. And a whole bottle of rum from Jes. We had the usual good breakfast but this morning with a lot of rum. And birthday songs.

No llama butchering or construction of flagpoles today we had the morning to just hang out and relax.

Topoco prepared a ritual for us around noon. A big hot fire in the scorching sun. We all had to collect twigs from the bushes and then sit around the fire. He or she who had the feather would talk, the others would listen. Done with the speaking you would pass the feather on and the next in line would talk. At the end of each round a drink and a toast and another twig on the fire to generate a bit of smoke. A very intense session - we also got a bit drunk.

Some more llama and leftovers for lunch today. Still tasting really good.

After siesta we had time to try our luck with bow and arrow and with a rock sling. We tried our best but didn't hit the orange. So no price for any of us. We blame it on the wind. Since it was our last day at Topocos place both he and us had to do some practical stuff. We had to pack our things - and not leave anything important behind. He had to go ask a neighbour to look after the llamas when he would go with us to La Paz tomorrow.

While we took care of our stuff he got dinner cooking - quinoa porridge. He left for the neighbour when the sun was setting instructing us to put six pieces of butter in the pot. So we did and let it set for some time before eating. It was dark with a million stars covering the sky, the fire burning under the pot and some rum left in the bottle. What a meal. The pick up is at seven in the morning so Jes can make it to his flight in El Alto in time, so we went to bed early - again.
