Relaxing day in Bukhara

Mikkel got up a 5 am to go to a live stock market with Nico, David and Jalal. Malene was feeling better but decided not to push it and stayed in the hotel.

Around noon Malene was feeling all right and able to do a small sightseeing tour with Mikkel and Adam. Well it was actually the same tour as the day before but since there wasn't all the guide talk we managed to do it in a few hours - including lunch stop and a local market. There were no foreigners, no souvenirs and priced lowered significantly.The local market was great and different to the former markets. There were a lot of nice spices and we bought a mixture of 10 spices which should be good for meat - for some camp dinner - and a mixture of spices to make tea. He he, when we came back to the hotel we really smelled the spices, wow not a regular dry basil from the supermarket.

In the evening we had an easy walk around old town with Neill and Nico before heading home early to the hotel.

Historic town of Bukhara - long sightseeing day

Bukhara has a lot of the originals buildings intact and a lot has been restored so this is one of the cities which really shows the history of Central Asia before the Soviet Union. The buildings are alike the ones in Khiva - clay buildings with beautiful colored tiles. Today was big sightseeing tour with Jalab.

Malene didn't feel well - the local food finally got her - so she stayed in the hotel all day sleeping.

Mikkel got the grand tour seeing the old madrassas, mosques, lots of souvenirs shops where they sold knives, scissors, carpets, bags and tea. The sightseeing took all day. We have quite a talkative guide here in Uzbekistan. 

Long day's drive to Bukhara

As we noticed yesterday we seem slightly younger than the other tourists here and our truck seems to attract their attention. The tourists from France, Italy and Germany are taking pictures of us and Mikkel also showed the truck to one of them. I guess Aziza is a bit different from normal tourist buses.

On the road again through the desert. Yes we know the drill. Talking, eating, reading, sleeping, reading, sleeping, talking, eating......

We did make one fun stop at a shop along the road where they sell hats and coats. This is supposed to be one of the shops with better quality things - and hence the prices are quite high. We had a good laugh trying the hats and Nico and Emma decided for a hat each. They're now looking like locals - or almost.

We arrived in Bukhara in the evening and we all went out for a group dinner at a nice roof top terrace.
