For once going on a day trip didn't include having to leave the hostel at some odd early morning hour before dawn. We just had to walk down the road and be a the dive shop at 8:00 meaning plenty of time for breakfast and getting ready. We had all our equipment prepared the night before so everything was packed and ready when we got to the shop.
The boat ride to the diving spot was around one hour and we got dropped of on a beautiful beach with our dive master - Jen going to a spot more suitable for experienced divers like her. We on the other hand had to learn to crawl which wasn't a problem at all. Our dive master was super good from the moment we hit the water he did everything with confidence and in a pace where we felt safe. So after 5 minutes in the water we were heading for 8-10 meters depth looking at a beautiful reef just off the beach and spending 50 minutes going slowly around the reef. Buoyancy turned out to be the biggest issue but a couple of rocks kept us floating at the right depth. And then we could just enjoy being underwater.
We surfaced and the boat picked us up and we went to another spot for snorkelling. A reef rock just off the coast of another island. Lots of fish and a small shark to look at and the water being incredible warm and clear. We headed for the ranger station on Isla Coiba after 45 minutes when Jen returned from her second dive. Then we had a bit of lunch before going for our last dive of the day a bit of the coast of Isla Coiba, this time a bit deeper but just as good at the previous dives, the reef and the fish being absolutely amazing. We returned to Santa Catalina after an amazing day diving and snorkelling now having really high expectations for our upcoming kayak and snorkelling trip the next three days - also going to Isla Coiba.
Back to the hostel to pack for three days - on the beach and in the kayaks. Can't wait to get going.
