Heading out for some hiking

Left the hostel in Vancouver this morning for a drive north towards the town of Kamloops. Some 430 kilometres of driving including a planned stop in Whistler - for coffee.

Just a little traffic as we headed out of Vancouver down town and then on highway 1, North, along the coast.

We had our first break in Squamish, taking the impressive sea-to-summit gondola to the top of the mountain and doing a couple of short walks up there with the rest of the tourists. Nice weather and some fabulous views of the sea and the mountain peaks.

Then back on the road to Whistler - crazy busy with tourists, mountain bikers and lots of people. Had a nice one hour break with a cup of coffee in the shade.

As we continued north we realised we had the road to ourselves. Smaller roads, lots of curves and turns and then the mountains surrounding us. The occasional lake here and there. Stunning and beautiful. Neither can be said about Kamloops or the Howard Johnson motel we arrived at in the evening after a long day of driving. But we had a bed for the night.

The guy at the front desk suggested going to "Storms" for dinner. Not a bad recommendation. A nice place by the river where we had good food before heading back to the motel. Ready for even more driving towards Jasper tomorrow
