Valparaiso - here we come

We didn't hurry out of the airport. Everything gets about 30 times as complicated when it's dark outside, and we couldn't check in to our hostel until the afternoon so we had breakfast at the airport, got all our stuff ready for the bus, and then took the Turbus to the bus terminal, bought tickets for the bus for Valparaiso - leaving in 4 minutes, great timing for once. Got on the bus - and fell asleep.

We woke up just when the bus entered Valparaiso so we had time to get a first impression of the town. Seems nice here. As we got off the bus a nice lady offered us a taxi to our hostel for just about the same price as our ticket for the 1½ hours bus drive. Since the hostel was less than 3 kilometres away we went for the local train and paid a reasonable 700 Pesos - or around 1 USD for the two tickets and then made it to the hostel.

We got our room and went straight for a nap. Later in the afternoon we walked a bit around the neighbourhood, found a rooftop terrace and had a drink before dinner and beer at the local brew pub. Not been here a day and we already like it.

So ready for a bus ride

Kind of reminds us of the start of our trip in Istanbul - 6 months ago

LAX - LIM - SCL

Today was just a travel day. A real travel day. We agreed to head for the airport around 12. Mikkel went to the post office and mailed of box full of souvenirs home (fingers crossed), Malene did some much needed Skype calls with friends and then we went to the airport, checked in, had late breakfast, our farewell coffee from Starbucks and boarded the plane. A brand new 787 Dreamliner - the same we saw being put together a week earlier at the Boeing factory. Cool.

The nice lady at the counter even gave us seats at the emergency exit so we had endless leg room. Thank you - LAN. Nice. Not so nice was our scheduled 1½ hour layover at Lima airport. Around midnight and lots of noise in the cabin with people leaving and boarding the plane so no option to sleep.

We touched down in Santiago on a grey morning, the sun hadn't made it over the horizon. Mikkels GPS informed us that we were now 9984 km from Portland. Quite a bit of travelling in a little more than a day.
