Yangon city sightseeing - Shwedagon pagoda by night and hanging out with the Champions League Trophy

We had a lazy morning at the hotel. With good breakfast. Then we went back to the room and stayed there for most of the morning before heading out walking towards the city centre. On the way we tried to find a place to have some documents printed for our trip to Vietnam in a couple of days. Visa applications and plane tickets. No luck finding the place recommended by the hotel.

The outside temperature was around 40 when we walked down one of the main roads leading toward the city centre so after a while we decided on a taxi and got one to take us down town - or as far down town it was possible. At some point the traffic just stopped moving and after a few minutes we paid the driver and walked the rest of the way. First visit was the Indian area where we walked up and down the street and had a bit of food to go - deep fried spicy chic pea balls. Yummy. Not finding anything that looked like a restaurant we headed towards 19th street and the Chinese area, passing the local market on the way.

On 19th street we had more luck with food so we sat down and had the local version of a beef burger and some snacks for Malene. Later we found a local street food place that sold good noodle soup. Two big servings for 1600 Kyat. It once again brought our lasagne dinner last night into perspective.

Last stop on the afternoon itinerary was Strand hotel to book a table for high tea tomorrow afternoon. Once done with that we walked to the YangonYangon that has a roof top bar on the 20th floor. We had one drink there looking over the now dark skyline of Yangon. Malene was chatting to a Austrian girl on Facebook we met in Nwgesaung about meeting there but she instead told us to go to a bar on Strand road. So we headed back and got into a packed place where Heineken was sponsoring free beer due to a Champions League trophy event. So we spent the rest of the evening hanging out with Ana and friends, standing next to the trophy - in Yangon of all places on the planet. Taxi back to the hotel and the intention to leave early for a morning train ride or temple visit.
