PADI Advanced Open Water Dive course at Hin Muang and Hin Daeng (Blue Planet Divers) - Fireshow on the beach and a big bucket

Another early morning for Malene today being picked up at 6:15 AM. Last part of the PADI. It turned out Malene got a new instructor, which was actually quite good, he was more experienced than the last instructor and a bit more enthusiastic.

The Advanced Open Water Dive course today included Fish identification - long fin banner fish, clown fish, barracuda, parrot fish, butterfly fish among the ones being added to the list today. And also the signs for the different fish were practised. Under water Malene swan around with a sheet with the different fish and the task was to point out some different ones and show the sign for them.

The topic Naturalist gave a better understanding of the life under water. Which fish help each other with hunting, cleaning, protection etc. and which fish, corals and plants use each other e.i. for protection. This time Malene was more following the instructor and he pointed out the different things. Once again a luxury with no other students doing the course.

Only at the Deep Diving dive Malene had company of two other divers. During the deep dive you go down to 30 meters. You're shown that the red color disappears and to show the differences in the pressure and empty plastic bottle is shown on 30 meter, then it's filled with water and back on the water the change in the pressure gives the bottle so much pressure so the cap shoots off like a champagne cap. Three fantastic dives to finish the course off and heading back to our bungalow.

We had dinner after watching the sun set and later in the evening we headed down the beach to one of the bars where they had advertised with fire show.

Being in Thailand also means "must-have-a-bucket" so Malene ordered a "Cuba Libre" bucket made with cheap Mekong whisky and Coca Cola. Needless to say that the taste got better during the evening as the ice cubes melted. But we got our bucket.

The fire show was really impressive with six different performers showing off with different tools on fire. Most impressive was the guy who did the biggest circle of fire a bit away from the audience but all of them were good. We couldn't be bothered with the voting for "best show" so we left and headed back to the last night in our bungalow.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course at Koh Haa Lagoon and Koh Haa Yai (Blue Planet Divers)

Malene left early this morning to go for more diving. This time to get the PADI Open Water Advanced certificate. Spending all day off the the island of Koh Haa today also included seeing a sea horse and trumpet fish. The visibility was much better today so yesterday must have been bad luck. Two really fantastic dives.

The dives consisted of "Peak Performance Buoyancy" and "Underwater Navigation". Normally you would read about the subjects and answering some questions before going out on the boat, but Malene didn't have the book because the dive shop is placed in another part of the island, so before the first dive and between the dives all the time was spent on reading, answering questions and discussing it with the instructor. Both dives and exercises were completed successfully. Buoyancy is one of the most important things to train when diving and navigation skills are always good to know so definitely to useful dives.

Katrine and Jeppe and Karl left for Koh Yao Yai early in the morning - we'll be at Koh Lanta for another couple of days. While Malene did her diving Mikkel spent most of the day taking it easy, staying in the shade a reading a good book.

With Malene back in the afternoon we had a swim in the ocean, drinks for sunset and nice dinner.
